Updates are paused by the developers
Announced September 24, 2026: updates are paused for the foreseeable future, though the game stays playable. The latest content drop was the Volcano update in mid-September. Full story in the update log.
Cast your rod in tiered fishing spots, hook everything from common Clownfish to the mythical Bloop, and stock your aquarium where every fish prints cash per second. Level up to unlock new boats, new weapons, deeper fishing zones and a bigger base — then take it all on the road: battle rival fishermen on the open sea, sink their boats and steal the fish right out of their aquariums, all in tight 8-player servers. Beware the Kraken lurking in the deepest part of the ocean.

The developers announced on the official Discord game-announcements channel that Fishing Wars updates are paused indefinitely. steak (steakwad) posted: "we are going to pause updates for the foreseeable future", explaining that "the reality is this game is just too much money for us to continue to update, and it just didn't do as good as we thought it would" and adding "we are just as sad about this as you are". This is a content-development pause, not a shutdown — the game remains online and playable on Roblox. Team member Henry (drywest) told players to expect other projects from the studio: "steak / cruz / lptos will cook another game". Since the announcement the Roblox universe has seen no further patches (last updated September 21) and no new content has been teased on the official channels.
The game's second major update rolled out around September 13–14 (exact day inferred from the events timeline). The experience name now carries the [VOLCANO] suffix, and Roblox's official Events system lists an active "NEW VOLCANO UPDATE" event with a Join Event button. Creator footage confirms the headline content: a final boss that comes out of a volcano — a walkthrough covering every boss in the update was published September 21. The boss's name, mechanics and rewards are not yet verified: unlike the September 6 update, the team posted no patch notes to the official Discord #updates channel. One hard number did change on the game page — server size dropped from 8 to 6 players. The Roblox games API shows the universe kept hot-fixing after release (updated September 18, then September 21). Follow-up patches were expected at the time, but development was paused on September 24 — see the entry above.
The official game-announcements channel confirms the Traits & Mutations Update is live (posted September 6, 16:00 UTC). The headliner: 10 new fish traits (Old Man, Electric, Royalty, Pirate, Fire, Signed By Steak, Signed By Cruz, Blessed By Luck, Twisted and Millionaire) and 3 mutations (Rainbow, Gold, Diamond). A new island, the Old Root Bar, anchors the new Pirate system: Pirate Coins, a Bounty Board, Trait Fusion and Pirate Trait Fusion. Also in: three new boats (Jack's Crew Boat, Luxurious Speedboat, Demon Vessel), the Pirate Coral Pack, two new weapons (the Semi Pistol and The Hook, which pulls enemy boats toward you), aquarium management improvements, a gifting system, five new Rebirth levels and 15-minute spawn protection for new players. The same evening the team opened a contest: whoever catches the best Cruz fish wins 20,000 Robux (announced by Cruz, 16:44 UTC). Verified footage adds two practical details: the fish index now has Normal/Rainbow/Gold/Diamond filter toggles, and the Millionaire trait triggers when a single fish has earned you $1,000,000.
