Fishing Wars Beginner Guide — Core Loop, Levels & Money
Fishing Wars is a fishing game with teeth: every fish you catch is money, and every other player in your 8-player server can take it from you. This guide walks through the confirmed core loop for your first hours.
The core loop
- Talk to Fisherman Joe — the tutorial NPC walks you through your first cast. (Fun fact from launch day: hook a Loch Ness Monster on cast one and he teleports you back to the starter waters — “that one belongs to the deep.”)
- Fish the pools — walk into a fishing spot until you see the “Fish Here” prompt, then interact and click fast. Faster clicking means faster catches.
- Collect your catch — fish land in your inventory. Their name and what you’re carrying show at the bottom right while fishing.
- Stock the aquarium — fish in your aquarium earn cash every second. Collect it regularly from your base.
- Level up — every level unlocks new weapons, sometimes a new boat, and grows your base.
Fishing spots by tier
Not all water is equal. Fishing pools are tiered, and the deeper (and farther) the zone, the better the fish:
- Common pools — starter waters right off your base. Sea Bass and other commons.
- Rare spots — a step up; expect Swordfish, Seahorses and Blue Tangs.
- Mythic zone — requires level 14, and it is far away (players measure it in thousands of in-game miles). Go under-leveled and you will likely die out there and lose fish. This is where Mythicals like the Bloop live.
Secret fish spawn roughly once per hour server-wide — drop everything when one appears.
What leveling unlocks
Confirmed unlocks from gameplay footage:
| Level | Unlock |
|---|---|
| Start | Speedboat, starter rod, tutorial |
| ~3 | Coral farming (Seed Shop) |
| 6 | Pirate Ship, Lighthouse top deck (decoration shop) |
| 9 | Tugboat |
| 14 | Mythic zone access |
| 15 | Third base stage |
Every level also grants a new weapon; some levels upgrade your base’s look and aquarium capacity.
Where the money comes from
- Aquarium income — your main passive. Fish print $/s; a good early Seahorse can out-earn rare-er catches.
- Shark kills — the sharks hunting you drop cash when you kill them.
- Quests — Fisherman Joe hands out quests (players report asking for Salmon, Tuna and other specific fish).
- Coral — buy packs at the Seed Shop, let it grow, sell at the Sell Corals stand. The community calls this “investing.”
Rebirth
Rebirths reset progress in exchange for long-term gains. Confirmed requirement style: specific fish plus cash — early rebirths ask for Clownfish (one player needed “three clown fishes worth” plus cash). Later requirements reference other species such as Piranha. The exact recipe table is not published.
Beginner mistakes to avoid
- Sailing to the mythic zone under-leveled. You will die and donate your fish to whoever finds the wreckage.
- Leaving cash uncollected. Aquarium money sits there until you grab it — and so do your fish, if someone kills you first.
- Ignoring the Seed Shop. Coral is slow money that compounds while you PvP.
- Soloing the Kraken early. It’s end-game content; see our Kraken guide.
